ok so going a little off topic here but a while ago i was at the local muddi markets at the show grounds with a friend "Jarrod Fitzgerald" and his Clothing company DID HAPPEN. whilst selling clothes to random people, one man came up to use and started talking about the clothing designs and how he made his own little design a while back, he also made it in mind with the bmx theme. his name was Chris. Chris came and talked to us about jarrods designs and clothing and then further made a remark about the photo that we had set up next to the stall. he told us that he is a local editor for BMX LIFE magazine and he was extremely interested in the photo that i took. and thus started my first contact with an actual publisher. he knew some people from 20-20 a mtb bike magazine and he said that would be happy if i sent in some photos of my work for him to try and get published.

so excited about that and mabey in the near future i could become a more known photographer in the BMX/MTB industry.

massive :D

alright over the holidays was eventful. some good photos and some were a waste of time. i had multiple days of shooting some during the day and some at night.
Problem - im not too competent in night photography without the flash on the camera, i will have to read some more manuals and tutorials about how to take good night shots. this is a given, its something that i will have to learn how to do...

some of the better photos that i took over the 2 week period:

alright i was out taking some photos of 'street riding' and i came across a few issues:

1 - i wasn't really able to find a good place to actually set up and take photos
2 - no offence to the rider, but theres a limit of skill that was lacked for a really good shoot
3 - didnt help that i forgot to bring my tripod :(
4 - i tried to concentrate on the things that i was supposed to (background, lighting, composition) but no matter what happened there was always something.... ugly, that i could see or looks out of place in the backgrounds
5 - limited time - was kinda rushed at the end considering we had to be elsewhere
6 - hard to have a good range of photos with only one rider

on the plus side there where some good photos in the end.

alrighty last week i didnt put a post up because i was out taking photos. before i go any further i wanna say thanks to muzz, gary and nibblz for being my lab rats, i look forward to working with you guys more.
during th time that i spent taking photos and after having a look at them with Liam i have some things that i need to work on a little bit more, for example having a standard background which is clear to look at - like a simple blue sky with barely any clouds or (if at night) a fully dark background. another thing that i have to work on is the background composition, being what the background looks like, being cars, trees, people etc... i have been given a recommendation that i take some photos during the day before i get some evening / night stuff. also possibly taking some street photography as well.
on the plus side of things i believe that i had a great first shoot (even though i did the shoots on multiple days). i was able to get some great shots from different angles and lighting, some even look photoshopped =)
ultimately i have to think a little bit more about what is in the background and how my lighting shows up on the photo. although i dont particularly mind the backgrounds for some photos.

i have also been thinking of what a logo for myself should / could look like...

be calm in mind and swift in action...

okay having a chat with Liam and i was asked to research people, photos, angles, lighting...... whatever inspires me.
So i hopped onto www.pinkbike.com which is an awesome site to show off your skills in the BMX and MTB careers alongside photography and videography. i found 25 odd images and saved them into a folder, along side 3 photographers who one day i would love to work in their shoes. some images will be below...

Photographers: (all German :P and each on knows how to use a camera)

this man loves to fiddle around with his sunlight and his high def images, being dirt/snow/dust flying everywhere.

This guy likes his silhouettes and low angle shots. i would like to practise what this guy does a bit more...

i enjoy looking at this guys work because he incorporates some scenery into his work which i rather enjoy. he also focuses more on the person riding as well.

alrighty i was fiddling aroung with reflections on sunglasses and this is the best i could come up with...
i do have to mention that i tried to follow the instructions by doing one lens at a time but i found that the second lens wouldnt work. so i did the steps but i made it by doing both of the lens's at the same time. i also added a shadow as if the sunlight was directed down onto the sunnies.

Stay tuned... sounds kinda weird, i think i'll change it to random quotes and sentences.

today will be:

11.3.13

okay having a little play around on photoshop and i saw an awesome image that had water ripples on it and i thought maybe i could replicate that... so i found a pretty good tutorial and followed the steps, heres what i was able to come out with:
1) the 3d man, which was my first attempt. i chose this picture because its very plain, has no real colour, easy to use.
2) Fonzie. Fonzie was a little harder since i was using an actual image. i came across several problems because i was trying to create the ripples by memory which undoubtably i had to check multiple times to see if i was on the right track, another was that the actual image is slightly looking down upon him so if i wanted to make it look more realistic i would have had to alter the 'water level' so that it was in the orignal image. plus the colouring doesn't look right either (thats just my point of view).

Stay Tuned....

okay well this is what i did today. i made this by creating a quick mask and rubbing out all of the bits that i didnt need. after finalising my selection i blurred a little of the ladys dress and the mans back, after that i sharpened up the image via her hair and dress flowers. i tried to make the photo fit in as much as possible

stay tuned...

okay well focusing on this topic. i will hopefully be putting up images being manipulated or just straight upload from my camera. i want to be able to create better images via photoshop and hopefully will be getting better as the days go by. i will also be looking at the way movies and short films and clips are put together, the way they are composed and question why did they use that angle? or why are they using that background? i would like to increase my skills with any programs that would help me become a better photographer and videographer.

im interested in action sport and scenery so those will be the types of content that i will probably be posting later on.

say tuned...

okay starting off.
firstly this is the area where i "should" be posting all of my works in the diploma course - mainly focusing on photography and videography (being manipulated images, compilations etc).

stay tuned...
